Natalija Ugrina has been in the fashion industry, but she tells us how the vision of this world is behind the eyes of a new face on the catwalks.

Before modeling ‘knocked on your door’, what was your life like?

People often look at my life and think it has always been easy for me. I can promise you, the road to success is never easy. When I moved to LA, I didn’t know anyone and had to start from zero.

I was studying in the morning and working in the restaurant in the evening and had to change 3 buses to reach there. Above all people used to say I can’t be a model or actress with such a height (I am 6 feet tall). because one knows your truth. If you’re secure in yourself, no one and no(thing) can touch you, this is what I did and Followed my heart, listened to my inner voice, and that’s the reason today I am enjoying the peace and success.

1.- When did you discover that you wanted to be an actress?

What cost me most of all was deciding to study it. Since I was assigned for the first time by a modeling agent and signed me up for the Fashion TV international modeling contest, I decided to move to Italy and to start this work as my career. But it wasn’t until I was 15 that I decided to study it and want to earn a living from it. And my family were a key part in this, they encouraged me to study what I was passionate about first, they always told me that I would have time to work on what I did not like. And how right they were!

How much does the unpredictable factor of luck count?

Certainly a lot. The chance that the decision about the cast will be made before I even start audition is very high. Everyone who has a role has at least a minimum expectation from an applicant. You are automatically classified and your influence sinks.

You speak of the insane competition in the industry. Doesn’t success make you vain?

Success is a matter of definition. If you only combine success with not being able to save yourself from offers, it may be vain. I am happier about too much than too little work and am restless, but I can still doubt myself. The moments of success that remain are the inconspicuous moments of happiness in front of the camera when I did my first scene.

What have you learned about yourself?

I didn’t know that I could flip this switch: If the filming says: ” Action! ‘, Then you’re different. I was afraid that I couldn’t.

You have changed mind after graduating in economics. Why?

I discovered a new passion while filming, I enjoyed it. But I only decided to make something of it when I saw the finished film. I did my best in filming without knowing exactly what was going to happen. But when I saw the result, I knew I had to keep going.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?

Summers in Croatia on the beautiful island of Brac! I don’t like cold & winter so much that my friend Ivana bought me a calendar that counted days to summer. Luckily, I live in LA now and I have summer all year long.

What do you hope for in the future?

Long before I became an actress, I always said I wanted to see the world. So I hope that is now a reality.

What would you say to all the men and women who want to enter the world of the catwalks?

“Have discipline, be committed to everything, even if you are a small photographer it is experienced, sometimes it is difficult and competitive, have a love for what you do and, I always say, casting is to be known, if I had not gone to Italy I would not be here, never be discouraged by a no, because it is part of life.

A pleasure and an honor to have been able to chat with you.
