Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak found in Africa. It is a very popular hiking destination. Those that want to hike the Kilimanjaro have different routes to choose from.

For those that are looking for a less crowded route, we recommend the Lemosho route. It is a newer route that will have you hiking through alpine deserts, rainforests, and moorlands.

You will have a more secluded hike via the Lemosho and the entire route is a bit longer than the other options. There is the option of camping on this route and there is a higher success rate when it comes to reaching the summit.

Another route option is the Marangu route which is the most popular route. If you prefer a less rugged experience while you are hiking there are mountain huts you can sleep in. You will have the opportunity to hike through moorlands, dense rainforests, and rocky landscapes.

Those looking for a more scenic and challenging option can opt for the Machame Route. During this route you will check out the famous Barranco Wall. You will hike through rainforests and heathlands giving you a diverse terrain.

Keep in mind that no matter which route you take they are all challenging, so you need to be in good physical condition. Make sure you take the time to exercise regularly and train before your hike.

2. Inca Trail

This is a 26-mile hike that will take you over two 13,000 foot passes in Peru. You will get to experience where the ancient Incas traveled more than 650 years ago, while seeing a lot of the original stonework. There are also two tunnels that were created by the Incas that you will walk through.

It normally takes around four days to hike the entire trail. You have to be prepared for changing weather because it can be anything from pouring rain, to hot and steamy, to cold. Because it is a popular route you have the option to choose from hiking companies that can guide you.

Once you reach your destination (Machu Picchu) you will be rewarded with breathless sights.
