Jim Rutherford, general manager of the Penguins, promised a change after the team’s disappointing performance and just three days later he fired three head assistant coaches. Later, he made a deal to exchange the Penguins’ first-round pick of 2020 Filip Hallander with 2014 first-round pick Kasperi Kapanen. Now the Penguins are supposed to have younger and faster players. What is next? Rutherford has many plans and will take further steps to make the team stronger. He plans to move either Tristan Jarry or Matt Murray, partly because of the $ 81.5 million salary cap. Murray is more likely to go because he gets a higher salary and the financial side of the deal matters.

The departure of Murray was already rumored via different sports pages on Instagram. Especially on pages that have real and active followers on Instagram. Rutherford compared the situation to when the team had to move Marc-Andre Fleury for salary cap reasons. They think about different ways of making the right deal and talk to different teams. The team is also interested in goalies. There are a lot of options from Stanley Cup winners such as Braden Holtby and Corey Crawford to Cam Talbot and Anton Khudobin, and the N 1 Robin Lehner.

Rutherford thinks that no other team has what the penguins can offer. His secret weapon is youth. Rutherford said that while the majority of goalies are in their 30s, many of his goalies are in their mid-20s and it must be appealing to have a goalie to grow with. He also added that he is not in a rush. Teams have to wait for the right moment because one cannot rush when it comes to trades.

trade has to be convenient for both teams and nobody knows when that moment arrives. A defensemen Justin Schultz will leave the team. Rutherford confirmed that the team will move on from Justin Schultz. He thinks that the player will do better in the marketplace. Schultz who was an important contributor to a couple of Stanley Cup games had a horrible leg injury in October 2018. Rutherford said the team is looking out for players who will keep in the Penguins’ cap and will also be a great addition to the team.
