Overcoming Adversity

Aaliyah Alicia Thompson is a 21 year old black female who has defied the odds to become the first Autistic young woman to open a Beauty Bar at the age of 21. The establishment is aptly named “Aaliyah’s Beauty Bar” and it is located in Clayton County, GA.

The beauty bar will cater to a wide variety of hair and beauty needs such as make up and nails on a walk in basis without the need for an appointment. Aaliyah was diagnosed with Autism at the tender age of 5 but she never let that deter her from learning and growing. She excelled in her grades graduating high school with distinguished honors. She later went on to work at Touched By An Angel Beauty School and Salon, in Jonesboro, GA where she found her talent and passion for beauty.

The design and concept of Aaliyah’s Beauty Bar is mostly the work of Aaliyah herself. Her mother supported and came up with the idea to gift the talented Aaliyah with her very own beauty bar in order to allow her daughter’s dreams and ambitions to shine through.

Aaliyah will prove to be an inspiration to all people from all walks of life particularly families that deal with autism and serve as a beacon that Autistic people can achieve anything they put their minds to. Aaliyah has received overwhelming support from her family, particularly her mother Patricia Terry, step-father Martin Terry, and her sisters LaPorsha Grier & Persephone Thompson who all wish her a happy birthday and a happy Grand opening of Aaliyah’s Beauty Bar!
