It’s no question that Instagram has brought together people around the world and connected them all under one platform. As Instagram rises in popularity, still to this day, people from new areas are adapting to this platform. Instagram has become a home to many businesses, creatives, and industry pushers. And how they communicate with their existing customers and acquire new clientele is something to see.

As this is a hot topic, many people try to give it a shot to develop their own personal brands through Instagram. And, while some succeed, many don’t even get the opportunity to reach any level of success.

We got hold of Internet personality and owner of the successful Instagram account, @DailyLawofAttraction, Jay Stark. He has blown up in popularity in as little as the last year alone, with his page on the Law of Attraction posting daily inspirational quotes and connecting and bringing a niche targeted community together.

We had the pleasure to interview Jay Stark on the growth of his Instagram account in such a short period of time. Here are the questions we asked him, and his answers.

How did you get started on Instagram?

I learned about the law of attraction at a pretty young age and, like most people, really struggled with consistently applying it in my life. During this time, I decided to take things to the next level, no matter what and started the Instagram account @dailylawofattraction to help me stay consistent in remembering and applying the law of attraction, every day.

From that point, it just started to grow and I realized that, in helping myself, I also gained the ability to now inspire and empower people to do the same in their life.

What were some of the challenges you faced on your road to success?

One of the biggest challenges I faced, in the beginning, was imposter syndrome. I felt like I was teaching something that I barely understood, and that was far from the truth. I dove in, head-first, and applied the same principles I’d known since I was 12, using reiki, and have since achieved multiple levels of success since then.

I thought, since I’m young right now, I should have that much to give to the world. But I failed to realize that I started this journey far earlier than most people.

Do you remember who your very first follower was?

There are actually a few people that I remember from when I first got started. I was shocked that people were following me and I just wanted to reach out and see what they were looking for to see how I could provide them more value, all while learning to stay consistent myself.

I learned, then, to just keep doing what I do, whether I needed it or not, because someone else out there may need what you’ve got. If you don’t go out there and share it with the world, it will die within you forever.

How did you get your first 10,000 followers?

I had a friend who had a social media agency who gave me different methods and strategies to apply to my Instagram growth after it began growing slightly. I figured, “I’m trying to stay consistent with the law of attraction, so I might as well do it in a way that helps more people out.”

How to create a community around your page?

I just showed up as consistently as I could and, with the intention to help inspire and empower people to see the greatness within them and to live in it every day, so they can share it with the rest of the world.

Also, I focused more on providing value to my audience in the way that they actually wanted it, rather than the way I wanted to give it. That radically changed everything.

What are some of the best engagement methods you’ve used?

Most people want to hear some crazy tactics, used and applied, that magically grow an account to huge numbers but, in reality, it’s not that simple. You have to put in the time and effort in the beginning, and be willing to try out new things.

Everything in life has certain rules and rhythms and, a lot of times, our ego wants us to do things our way. When that happens, just examine what’s already working and do that, rather than trying to reinvent the rules.

What should you not do on Instagram?

You should first figure out what it is you’re looking to do with your Instagram account. What’s the outcome you’re looking to create? Whatever it is, just start moving in that direction immediately.

Also, it’s important to figure out if Instagram is the right tool to use, based on what you want. If it isn’t, find another platform that can help you and that you know you can stay consistent on.

How often should you post on Instagram for the best results?

This really depends on where you are, currently, in your journey and what niche you’re currently in. Also, another thing is the Instagram algorithm, which is always changing, so it varies from time to time. In general, 1-3 posts a day is a good goal for engagement. Anything above that is good for growing your account.

How do you find the best tags to use for your posts?

Do some research and see what others are using and what’s been working for them. This is the observation phase. Test it out and see what works out for you. If it does, keep using it. If it doesn’t, change it up.

Do you recommend collaborating with other big names in your specific niche?

I definitely believe that collaboration is the biggest driving force in growing a large online presence. Find people that speak the same language as you and work with them because, when we try to do things on our own, we may be able to go fast but, when we do it with others, we go much further every time.

What is your advice for someone who is just getting started?

Find out what it is you want to do and see if Instagram is the right place to do it. Also, try to focus on only 1 or 2 social media platforms in the beginning, so it doesn’t get overwhelming. After I grew Instagram, I started working on Facebook and now that’s growing pretty early on. But that’s because I’m applying Facebook rules to Facebook and Instagram rules on Instagram.
