CVV stands for Card Verification Value and translates as “Card Verification Value”. It is an anti-fraud system that credit cards include to verify that the buyer physically has the card.

Depending on the provider, it will be a 3 or 4 digit code that is located on the credit card itself, on the back.

The name of this code also depends on the provider.

American Express calls it “CID” or “Unique Card Code”, and it has 4 digits.

Uses of CVV in online shopping

Other techniques that can steal CVV and other personal data include keyloggers , infostealers, and browser-based malware.
