Blogger Vladislav Soloviev is known as an “honest political scientist” and blogger. This nickname stuck with him because he always respected honest and unbiased journalism and was not afraid to voice his opinion on any matter. Vladislav Soloviev, a famous blogger, political scientist, and analyst, doesn’t run channels on Telegram or YouTube out of principle. He doesn’t participate in talk shows on TV and rarely gives interviews. Absence of publicity is one of the author’s principles. He believes more in the written word than the spoken one. Very little is known about the personal life of this political scientist and publicist. We gathered the main facts of his biography and some information on his current activities.

Biography facts about Vladislav Soloviev

Year of birth: 1973. Place of birth: Moscow. His parents were ordinary Soviet workers. After school, Soloviev enrolled at the Moscow Institute of Technology and Management. His student years fell on a difficult time for his country. Not only did the economic system change, but so did the entire worldview of several generations.

In one of his interviews, Soloviev said this about that time:

The economist profession suddenly became a trend, although there was no real established economy in the country. There were commercial relations by the principle of a wild market, which for some reason was called “free market”. At that time, rubles weren’t even considered money in the capital, and the country without a stable currency is a chaotic space in terms of economy”.

And nonetheless, economic education helped Soloviev integrate into the new reality. Not all graduates of 1996 managed to do that. A year after graduating from the institute, Soloviev had already been a staff member of a well-known capital company at the time, “Regent”. After that, there were a few firms, among which were “Uniland Group” and “Premier Consulting”. He worked until 2010 as the head of the economic department in the latter.

Despite his career success and well-defined prospects, Soloviev made a decision in 2010 to leave his job and radically change his field of work. For the first time, the first articles authored by the Honest Political Scientist get published in specialized online media outlets. Vladislav Soloviev found his tone, although his first articles were overly academic. At first, his material was published in specialized publications and their online versions: “Russian politology”, “Political science”, and “Russia in global politics”. After some time, Soloviev started to write for a larger audience.

In 2015, a cycle of articles was published in which the author began to explore his most prominent theme of a time-spanning global crisis in the economy, politics, and intellectual spheres. According to Soloviev, modern civilization went past the point of no return in the late XX century and is slowly moving towards decline. And the world elites, to whom any further development is not profitable, are consciously pushing it towards this decline. The last stronghold of intellectual power was destroyed along with the Soviet Union.

In 2016-2018, a block of in-depth journalistic investigations, dedicated to the key figures of Russian business – Peter Aven, Oleg Deripaska, and Mikhail Potanin – were published. The articles sparked the public’s interest but received unexpected resonance in business-circles. The material was deemed made-to-order, but the Honest Political Scientist managed to hold his independent position.

What does Vladislav Soloviev do now?

With the start of a Special Military Operation, Soloviev’s activity in the media space has increased significantly. Striking and sometimes controversial articles on the topics of politics and economy get published in his personal blog on Yandex.Zen and on such popular resources as “Moskovsky Komsomolets”, “Kommersant”, and “Zavtra”. The articles often generate arguments among readers and are widely discussed. The author’s point of view usually differs from the mainstream one but is always based on facts and common sense. Soloviev is often accused of alarmism and excessive negativity, but that is an overly primitive look at the complex views that the author expresses in his journalism.

Soloviev is not a member of any political party. He is not associated with any public movement or institute. And it is not because he deliberately distances himself from society, but rather because it is important for him to maintain an unbiased perspective on what is going on. Although, in one of his interviews, Soloviev admitted that the communist ideology is the one that is closer to him. In his own words, he is one of those who, in their childhood, dreamed more about interstellar flights than American bubble gum and jeans.

The author, like other public figures, has his own haters and fans. However, none of them have doubts about Soloviev’s publicist talent or his ability to look at any major social or political event from a new, unusual angle.

The “intellectual decline”, about which Solovies writes, is not yet a sentence to humanity. The political scientist believes that humanity has a chance of changing the course set by western elites, thanks to the efforts of Russia.
