If you recently moved to an area that is tornado prone, it is a good idea to learn tornado safety tips to make sure you are prepared in the event of an emergency. We have put together this guide to share some storm safety precautions you want to keep in mind.

Be Prepared

Our first tip is to be prepared and have a plan of action way before a tornado ever comes. You need to have a few items on hand at all times for an emergency such as a battery operated radio along with packs of new batteries.

You also need medications, water, and non-perishable food as part of your emergency kit. Your tornado plan needs to include access to a shelter for your family and your pets.

If you have kids, you want to make sure they are aware of what a tornado is and what tornado warnings are. Also, share your plan with them and educate them on what a safe shelter is in case of a tornado just in case they happen to be somewhere else when one occurs.

 

Have a plan in place in case something happens to your home. Be prepared with storm damaged roof repair in your area to ensure that your roof can be fixed if a tornado comes through and ruins the top of your home.

Know Your Shelters

It is a good idea to stay on top of the weather conditions in your area during tornado season. When thunderstorms are expected, make sure you tune into a NOAA weather radio station or the local radio for tornado warnings.

Some weather signs to look out for include: large hail, low clouds, a green, or dark-colored sky, and a loud roar that resembles the sound of a freight train. With any of these signs, it is best to take cover to be safe.
