West Palm Beach City Commissioner Christina Lambert Informs Community During Hurricane Dorian

Residents of West Palm Beach were forced to prepare for the worst-case scenario as Hurricane Dorian, the first major hurricane of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season, looked to be approaching their coast. While the storm may have missed the coastal city after all, that didn’t stop individuals, and one city official, from planning for all possible outcomes.

West Palm Beach City Commission President Christina Lambert understands the importance of informing her constituents, especially during a time of potential disaster. A long-time community activist, Lambert focused on keeping citizens updated on the location and severity of the storm, as well as the steps they could take to prepare and to plan for the storm if it were to reach their city.

On her website, Lambert posted twice-a-day updates for the West Palm Beach area about the incoming hurricane. The posts included information about the intensity of the storm from the National Hurricane Center. In addition to keeping the community up to date on the latest weather-related news, she also included tips on how to build a hurricane kit and how to ensure your home is protected against the storm. Lambert also informed her constituents of available shelters, parking locations and other city news related to the storm.

After the scare of Dorian making landfall in West Palm Beach passed, Lambert continued to keep the community updated on the possible weather conditions that they could expect. She incorporated tips on how to stay safe in flood situations, and information on when schools and other city programs would be re-opening.

While Lambert’s primary focus was the safety of those in her community, once the devastation of the Bahamas was reported, she shifted her efforts to helping those affected. “Our friends and neighbors in the Bahamas have faced catastrophic damage from Hurricane Dorian and are in desperate need of our help,” said Lambert. Many residents reached out to Lambert, concerned about the impact Dorian had made in the Bahamas. She shared hurricane relief information, including drop-off locations and items to donate, which can be accessed here:
