Rapper Cali Dubb, Humble Beginnings
The culture of rap music is growing and evolving at a rapid pace; in the United States, it is now more popular than rock music. One reason may be for many young Black males in urban areas, music is the only legal career option that’s both rewarding and feasible. However, as an established artist, or as a new rapper the odds for success are slim. So how does one stay inspired and focused? The answer is much deeper than you may believe.
On this occasion, we spoke to a young rapper by the name of Cali Dubb: an artist and songwriter who founded his own record label, C.O.D. Music Group, in 2016. His musical life began in the eighth grade; it took place when he started making beats on a keyboard given to him by his mother. It was then that he fell in love with the sound, grabbed a microphone and never looked back!
He defines himself as a person very proud of his work and highlights how grateful he is to have an opportunity to reach the world through song. Similarly, he indicates that his inspiration to compose music is a reflection of his life experiences, struggles, pains, goals, and fantasies.
Nevertheless, he enjoys the process of making music and does not write any of his lyrics, but instead, memorizes them. Cali Dubb has dedicated himself to helping other rappers with his talent and his ability for this genre.
What separates him from others is his distinct sound. In addition, his originality and creativity make him stand out among other artists in his genre. At a young age, he gave himself the name “Young Dubb”, but over the years, having found his sound and vibe on the track, he decided to rebrand himself. As a result, he decided to replace the “young” with “Cali”, that is how “Cali Dubb” was born.
He states that “without struggle, there is no progress” and he took that premise to motivate himself during his career. This led him to be prepared to have a platform and wave of his own in order to make his voice heard.
As part of his works, he previously released a single titled “Holt Blvd” that is currently available on all platforms. The music video is still increasing in numbers on YouTube. It’s been humble beginnings for Cali Dubb. He was once part of a small entertainment group called “Millticket”, but later decided to take the independent path. This year he is working hard on “The 1st Wave”, a creation that will drop soon (expected to be available the first quarter of 2020). He also has a new video in the works that was filmed by Khrave, a 19-year-old music video director from Los Angeles who is taking the industry by surprise.
