Odisha Government Collaborates With Coffee Board Of India For An Advanced Solution

With the global financial markets fast-moving towards the cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, India has also started setting its foot ahead in the same sphere. The country has been exploring digital currencies for over a year’s span now and earlier this year showed its interest in using the advanced pedagogy to improve the coffee supply chain.
ST & SC Development Department of Odisha Government, through its arms- Tribal Development Corporation of Odisha Limited (TDCCOL) and the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Koraput has collaborated with Coffee Board of India and Koraput District Administration to come up with a end-to-end solution that will be capable of giving a boost to coffee plantation along with substantial profits for small tribal planters.
As a part of the highly-anticipated partnership, TDCCOL will set up a processing and warehousing center at Sunabeda, Koraput. The center will be involved in curing parchment and cherry coffee, clean coffee grading, and storage. With aggregation centers working as mediators, TDCCOL will directly trade parchment and cherry from tribal farmers at a mutually ascertained price through DBT or Direct Beneficiary Transfer payment system.
A micro testing lab facilitating the process of roasting, grinding, brewing, and packaging along with retail shops for the trading of branded filter coffee powder and coffee beans are being initiated at Tribal World, Chandan Pokhara, Koraput. Soon, the partnership authorities are gearing up for the launch of a branded coffee kiosk established for the marketing of finished goods and brand building in Rupali Square, Bhubaneshwar.
The Coffee Board of India is the leading technical authority that works to facilitate the development of coffee plantation, provides guidance to farmers on pre and post-harvest techniques, skill enhancement of small tribal coffee growers with an aim to increase the production of coffee while meeting the standardized quality parameters.
Earlier in March this year, the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) revealed that the Coffee Board of India has come up with a new blockchain-focused e-marketplace to bridge the gap between coffee farmers and the markets. The Coffee Board of India announced its partnership with M/s Eka Plus, a virtual product management firm focusing on agriculture, to lubricate its blockchain-powered project.
The announcement further clarified that the solution would be launched as a pilot project with a limited number of growers. The authorities planned to expand the project to the 350,000 coffee growers in India, only after the success of its pilot project.
