New York Pastor Father Rutler Views On Do we need Religion?

There are many kinds of religions across the globe. Religion plays an important role not only in the identity but also daily lives of people. Father George Rutler said that while many people are not following any religion, they continuously argue why they need a god?

Before we go deep down into the topic and discuss how religion impacts people’s identity and daily lives, let us first explore the definition of Religion. A religion relates humanity to the supernatural, metaphysical, and other spiritual elements. In simple words, a belief lets the human get connected to their Creator. The different religions of the world share some common traits.  These traits are discussed by the famous religious scholar named Stephen Prothero and call them “family resemblances.”  These similar traits include rituals, scriptures, and holy days and gathering places. Every Religion gives its followers instructions on how to worship God and make His people happy.

According to the Christian priests, God created people to worship Him. They teach their followers that man is made to worship God and to share the gospel in order to please Him. By doing so, God will bless a man not only in this life but afterward as well. Bible highlights many reasons that why a human shall worship God. According to Martin Luther, the purpose behind the creation of humankind was to worship God. Jesus wants people to love him and spend their lives according to God’s sayings and for humanity’s betterment. Martin Luther is a world-famous German priest whose contribution to Christianity’s niche cannot be overlooked, said Father Rutler.

Do the first paragraphs show that why God created mankind? For worship. Next, we should discuss that why do we need Religion? Stephen Asma, a professor of Philosophy and Distinguee scholar at the College of Columbia, argues that Religion comes naturally but is beneficial for mankind. The religious figure Stephen Asma has worked on the philosophy of the life sciences and Religion and Science.  While some priests say that God does not need our prayers, He has commanded us to pray because He wants to accomplish His will till the end of mankind and the world. Prayer helps mankind to become strong in the spiritual realm.

“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” -1 Timothy 4:8

Why do humans need a religion? The know-how of Religion gives humans the spirit of a religious commitment. Religious commitment includes beliefs, rituals, and practices. A religion protects and also keeps the emotional life of a person. It is not wrong to say that Religion guides a person and is probably the management system of humans’ dynamic system to let them live a content life and show empathy to everyone. This means that Religion is the central part of the identity of an individual or a group.

Father George Rutler said that while many people are not following any religion, they continuously argue why they need a god?

While a group of priests argues that mankind needs Religion to distinguish between good or bad, people need a moral.  It is a religion that guides people to do good for the betterment of other living beings.  Dr. Oliver Scott Curry says call these things right, which lead to morality.

“Morality is all about cooperation – promoting the common good. Because there are many different types of cooperation, there are many different types of morality, including sympathy, loyalty, reciprocity, bravery, respect, fairness and property rights.”

George Rutler further said our Religion guides us to be helpful and also develops morality. Morality is much older than Religion. Many people who do not even believe in God or are not following any of the religions are moral- i.e., they are friendly to other living beings. Also, not all beliefs are moral. Christianity, Islam, and Judaism believe in treating people in the right way. At the same time, there are a few religions that believe in evil spirits, and the followers are supposed to believe in these evil spirits and worship them with the hope that these bad spirits do not get agree with them and do not ruin their lives other doings.

God has blessed us in so many ways, and this calls for worshiping him. When a man worships God,  he is giving God praise for what He has done for mankind. Mankind comes before Him. When a man worships God, he is entering into His presence and trying to please Him. God has asked us to pray to Him. Prayers and bending down in front of Him are not because we are commanded to do so but also for the countless blessings and act obediently to His will. According to a Christian philosopher and scientist Blaise Pascal (1623-62) wrote, “The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing.” Prayers are an essential part of our lives, and just the way, prayer is vital itself. Blaise Pascal was a French mathematician, physicist, inventor, philosopher, writer, and Catholic theologian.

Final Thoughts

There are several different religions all across the globe. All these religions emphasize worshiping God and giving the message of being kind to humanity and other living beings. Faith is not only about worshipping God. It also plays an essential role in the central identity of an individual and groups. Religion leads people to live their lives according to God’s will and helps people differentiate between good and evil.
