Six of the Most Purchased Cat Breeds During Covid

It’s fair to say that the majority of cat owners are truly obsessed with their cats and often the acquisition of one cat pretty soon leads to another. We’ve all heard the term ‘crazy cat lady right? And why not? After all, cats are adorable!

During the Covid pandemic, many people found that they had more time to spend with their pets and consequently the sale of both cats and dogs went through the roof. A side-effect of this was some of these new owners didn’t realise that they might have to clean urine from their carpets, from time to time. Don’t worry, the pro’s at PetLab have created an enzyme spray for cat pee which is developed to clean up those stains in a jiffy.

But, which cat breeds were most popular during this crazy time? We take a look.

American Shorthair

The American Shorthair has been around since European settlers first came to our shores. They were used to taking care of rats on board ships as they sailed to the New World. Today they’re an extremely popular breed as they’re happy to show their devotion to their humans plus they get on well with other pets too.

American Bobtail

For patriotic cat lovers, the American Bobtail proved to be a loving and devoted feline friend. Despite their wild look, this breed is fairly quiet although when they get excited you’ll hear them make trilling, chirping and clicking noises. They also have an intuitive nature that suggests that they know what you’re feeling!

Abyssinian

The Abyssinian was a popular choice as it’s a cat that likes to entertain: climbing, acrobatics, playing, exploring and generally getting into trouble – there’s never a dull moment with an Abyssinian- some are even known to climb up your window blinds while playing! No wonder cat lovers decided to add this delightful breed to their cat family. They’re loving and affectionate and love to be combed.

Siamese

Who can resist those beautiful blue eyes and their trademark black face, ears and paws? But with the Siamese, it’s not all about looks. These popular cats are extremely affectionate and love to ‘talk’ to you. One of the most distinctive breeds of Asian cats, they are native to Thailand and are one of the oldest domesticated breeds of cat in the world.

Persian

Another cat with exotic origins, the Persian, is loved for its stunning looks and is the perfect cat if you’re looking for a cat that’s quiet, gentle and expressive but loves to play. This calm and even-tempered breed obviously made an ideal companion during those stay at home orders. It’s easily recognized by its long hair, round face and short muzzle.

Balinese

It seems that we can’t get enough of cats from the Far East. The slender and elegant Balinese caught the heart (and wallets) with their playful and outgoing manner. Extremely vocal, the Balinese wants to ‘talk’ to you about everything. However, they don’t like being spoken to in a harsh manner.
