How Often Should You Get your Haircut?

Haircut

We never really have any specific time frame for when we should get a haircut, and most of us just visit the barber every 2 to 3 weeks. So let’s look at the four main categories of haircuts and how long they might usually last.

Before we get into it we recommend treating and styling your freshly cut hair with Hairbond United Kingdom products for best results, these products are made in the UK, loved by celebrities and used by professional barbershops and hair salons.

  1. Ultra harsh haircuts

The harsher or closer to the skin your barber goes with the clippers, the sooner you’ll probably want to be booked back in for your next haircut. Shaved hairlines, hard parts, and severe undercuts expose what we know as harsher haircuts. Although these may look sharp and clean when first done, they don’t usually tend to grow out as well as softer haircuts. So frequent visits to the barbers to keep them looking sharp is essential. As these haircuts grow out, the need for a haircut becomes more and more noticeable.

  1. Skin fades

Our hair grows on average, half an inch every month, which means if you got a skin shade at the beginning of the month, by the beginning of next month, you’d already had an about a number 4 on the back and sides. If you want to keep this high maintenance style fresh, then you may need to freshen up the back and sides every 1 to 2 weeks. But if you are fine with growing it out then it will still look ok up to 3 to 4 weeks.

  1. Short/medium length haircuts

Most agents fall under this category. These hairstyles include the crops, quiffs, Pompadour, and side parts. These haircuts grow out pretty well within 3-5 weeks. Thankfully, they are not as harsh as the others and are not easily noticeable when they start getting longer. With these hairstyles, the messier it looks at the beginning, the longer it lasts and this is because they aren’t intended to be perfect at the beginning so once they start getting rough, it is hardly noticed. But if you no longer like how the hair looks after a couple of weeks, you can consider a haircut rotation. Which means you get the back and sides cut every 2-3 weeks, and a full haircut every 4-6 weeks. This should keep you happier in between and keep those annoying hairs on the sides from encroaching over the top of your ears.

  1. Long length hairstyles

With longer length hairstyles, you won’t be visiting your barber often. Because of the rate at which hair grows monthly, you may not notice the extra length in your hair by month’s end. So you will have more time between cuts as it gets longer and longer.

Most people with long length hair only start thinking of visiting their barber once they begin to notice split ends and/or heaviness with the hair. Your barber will help to reduce the length of the hair, adding shape, texture, and layers as well for a better finish.

However, all of this is down to your personal preference, but on average 6-12 weeks is a good time frame to visit your barber depending on long the hair has grown. Some men are even fine with waiting longer, as much as 12 months without touching it. Again, all of this is a matter of personal preference.

While your style may determine how often you visit the barber, how you care for the hair is also crucial. Ensure you follow a professional hair care routine so that your hair is at its healthiest and lasting for longer periods.
