Interview with Global Health Leader Avi Kerendian, Co-Founder, GGHTx

Avi Kerendian – Co-Founder of GGHTx:

Avi Kerendian is a cancer-researcher turned social entrepreneur focused on global health equity and healthcare change. As co-founder and program director of GGHTx, Avi Kerendian organizes public health mission trips throughout Latin America and Uganda that are beneficial to community-based organizations (CBOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working with poor and underserved patient populations. He is the co-founder of GGHTx, an acronym for “Gracias” Global Health Trips, a global health non-profit organization specializing in bringing together volunteers from medical and dental backgrounds to aid in intensive, week-long mission trips with the aim of fostering self-sufficiency. GGHTx is guided by a mission to support marginalized communities in an effort to foster self-sufficiency by building alliances with locals, fundraising, and developing initiatives that promote health education.

About GGHTx and Avi Kerendian:

GGHTx started as small service-oriented mission trips but found ways to scale and expand healthcare access for over 33,000 people in rural communities across Mexico, Guatemala, and Uganda. The nonprofit realized that basic medicines and healthcare treatments were not always easily available, but that local volunteer partnerships can help provide that. Thanks to GGHTx Co-Founders, Dr. Arash Hakhamian and Avi Kerendian, to date, some 5,000 patients, 70% of whom are women and children, in over 40 villages, are now more easily able to make appointments with doctors and dentists, receive free, necessary vitamins and medications, and overall, have access to health-education resources they otherwise would not have given the harrowing lack of funding in these underprivileged communities. Two of the current leading projects being organized by Avi Kerendian include:

GGHTx Partners ASSADE & Zidan Benevolence International:

  1. ASSADE: A GGHTx + Latin America Partnership, with Latin American Executive Director Julio Chàvez. Together, GGHTx employs a full-time doctor and nurse, in addition to other health and support staff, and treats on average 30-45 patients per day – seventy percent of whom are women and children. In addition to caring for acute conditions, the staff increasingly focuses on preventive medicine to better avoid certain tragic outcomes that affect the indigenous population there.

  1. The Stigma Project: A GGHTx + Zidan Benevolence International Partnership, with Executive Director Kiyini Jimedine. Together, GGHTx helps eliminate HIV/AIDS stigma and vamp up the fight against pediatric HIV/AIDS through disease awareness, disease prevention, professional community and adolescent education, while improving healthcare access and treatment services for underserved and vulnerable populations throughout central Uganda. This is an insightful interview with a leading public health nonprofit and global health leader.

3D Mesh Hernia

Are you suffering from a hernia? Did you know that owing to the complex lifestyle can make you suffer from a hernia? Yes! Obesity, consuming junk food, stress, smoking, dietary choices with lack of fibers, are just some of the lifestyle choices that put people at the risk of having a hernia. So, if you are a corporate worker, working with an MNC in Gurgaon or any other major city, you are more likely to suffer from one.

A hernia is a bulge or protrusion of body tissue or organ through the structure that normally contains it. It results due to weak spots present in the abdominal muscle walls,  groin, upper thigh, chest, or hips. Hernias are found to affect both men and women equally, increasing the chances of advanced age.

Hernias are classified into different types based on their origin and severity. Some common causes of hernia include:

  • Weak abdominal muscles or tissues
  • Bowel obstruction and constipation
  • The strain on lifting heavy objects
  • Complications during or after pregnancy
  • Severe coughing
  • Lack of nutrition

The symptoms to identify hernia are:

  • A bulge in the groin or abdominal area
  • Pain or burning sensation near the bulge

  • Chest pain
  • Acid reflux
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Pain when coughing or lifting heavy objects

What is a 3D mesh Hernia?

Hernia mesh, also known as surgical mesh, is a medical device that is used to cover up the hernia to reduce the chances of recurrence. The 3D mesh repair technique involves the usage of a polypropylene mesh which ensures that the hernia is covered from above, centre, and below. 3D mesh repair supports the damaged tissue around the hernias as it heals.

During the procedure, surgeons place the mesh surrounding the hernia and attach them at the site with the help of stitches, staples or glue. This way, the pores in the mesh allow the tissue to grow into the device, securing the hernia and strengthening the hernia repair.  Hospitals in Gurgaon use hernia mesh for repairing in almost nine out of 10 surgeries.

Why choose a 3D Mesh Hernia treatment hospital in Gurgaon?

Gurgaon is considered to be a corporate hub, Its people are usually rich, or well-educated urban professionals who work for some of the biggest firms in the world. 3D mesh surgery for umbilical hernia repair

The 3D mesh surgery aims to repair the umbilicus, instead of removing it as other methods of treatment propose to do. This repair occurs from the anterior and posterior aspects. The procedure involves bringing the umbilicus to its original position and then repairing it, with a negligible recurrence rate. The 3D mesh surgery takes a short time and you can even go home on the same day.

Advantages of 3D Mesh Repair:

  • Minimal incision, a lesser number of stitches
  • Negligent chances of recurrence
  • Performed under local anesthesia
  • Faster discharge from hospital
  • Minimal recovery time
  • No risk of groin pain as stitches do not fix the mesh

Why opt for 3D mesh repair treatment in Gurgaon?

Gurgaon has various hernia removal surgery options, including the 3D mesh hernia removal technique. The advantages of this technique are more than other surgical procedures. Moreover, one should get treated from the hospitals in Gurgaon as they offer:

The Best Bread for an Alkaline Diet

If you plan to try a vegan diet or already take such a menu, you should have heard about the alkaline diet. Simply, the diet is designed with high-alkalized stuff.

A very common misconception goes that you have to cut many substances from your menu if you follow alkaline foodstuffs. Though the alkaline menu is restricted, you can still enjoy your favorite foods in a tricky way.

Bread is a regular meal we take in the breakfast that has plenty of high pH ingredients. We are going to share the best bread for an alkaline diet you can prepare at home. For a more alkaline diet, you can check this out as well.

What is Alkaline Diet?

Honduran herbalist Alfredo Bowman, also called Dr. Sebi, introduced some high pH recipes. These diets are also called acid-alkaline meals.

In this diet, you are restricted to avoid a number of listed foods like wheat, coffee, beef, sugary foods, pasta etc.

Alkaline ash menus claimed to have natural protection against several maladies. Our bodies burn foods to generate calories to provide us with strength. After burning the consumed foods, our body keeps the acidic wastes inside.

The goal of alkaline food is to maintain a balanced acidic degree in the human body.

Making the Alkaline Electric Spelt Bread

This alkaline bread recipe is the best alternative to the regular bread. You can prepare this feast following these steps.

Ingredients:

Spelt flour, grape seed oil, agave, sparkling spring water, sea salt and sesame seeds.

For mixing and preparing, you need a dough hook mixer and a loaf pan.

Process:

  • Take four cups of spelt flour and 2 tablespoons of sea salt. Put them into the mixer machine and mix for about ten seconds.
  • Add ¼ cup of agave and continue the blending.
  • Make a light layer of grapeseed oil on the dough hook and continue the mixing. You need to add one cup of sparkling spring water at a time to mix the ingredient well.
  • If the flour spread around the edge of the bowl, abrade them to the mixer and blend again with a moderate speed for around five minutes.
  • If the dough seems sticky, add about a half cup of spelt flour again or as required.
  • Now cover a loaf pan lightly with oil and put the dough into it. Place the lid and wait for an hour.
  • Heat your oven before baking to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (176°C). Now, bake it for fifty minutes to one hour.
  • Now make it cool properly before eating.

Alkaline electric Spelt bread is a quite healthy and low acidic meal. You can replace your regular bread with this dish completely. Each ingredient used to prepare this acid-alkaline food is rich in the required minerals and antioxidants for our bodies.

If you have a chronic disease like diabetes or high blood pressure, this can be a suggested physical wellness recipe. However, if you want to regularly consider this diet, consult with an experienced physician for a better outcome.

How To Take Care Of Your Skin If You Have Psoriasis

Psoriasis

The skin on your body is actually meant to protect you from the external world. Now, if you have psoriasis, then you’ll actually need to actively protect your skin from being irritated. You will need to create a skincare routine that will help to protect your skin and soothe your psoriasis. This will also help to reduce dryness and discomfort.

1. Make treatment a priority

You should always look for a treatment routine that will control the symptoms of psoriasis and take care of your skin. You should definitely become more aware of the different options you have.

2. Moisturize

One of the best ways to reduce the amount of dryness, itching, scaling, and soreness on your skin is to use emollient soaps. These are basically soaps that don’t have a perfume and don’t foam. These soaps will help by getting rid of some of the scalings and will actually help your psoriasis medication to get deeper into your skin. They can even help to make your skin more comfortable and reduce cracking.

One great tip is to use creams and ointments that contain zinc pyrithione and aloe vera. Once you have showered, cool down for a few minutes and then apply your topical medication. After, you can place the moisturizer and then re-apply moisturizer during the day, especially when you wash your hands. You can use moisturizers as often as you want. Visit Grahams Naturals for organic skincare.

3. Avoid things that irritate your skin

It is best to avoid anything, especially care products that have lots of irritants and harsh chemicals like alcohol. There are even certain laundry soaps that have residue that can irritate those with psoriasis. As a result, only use detergents that are free of chemicals and fragrance that won’t irritate your skin. You should also be careful with the clothes you wear and make sure they don’t cause itching. For example, if you want to wear a wool sweater, make sure and wear a long sleeve t-shirt under it that is made of cotton. It is also best to avoid hot water on your skin as it can cause excessive drying. You should aim to shower in slightly warm water and limit the length of your showers so that they are less than 10 minutes long.

4. Avoid scratching

Even though it is very difficult to avoid scratching an itch, it should be avoided as much as possible. This is because if you tear your skin slightly, it can lead to infection or even worsening the lesions on your skin. Simply use a moisturizer or you can even take a bath.

5. Baths

One way to get relief is to take a warm bath where you use a gentle soap. You can even add moisturizer into the bath. Some options include dead sea salt, colloidal oatmeal, oil, Epsom salt, etc. However, you should only stay in the bath for up to 15 minutes. When drying your skin, be very careful to pat dry and avoid rubbing. Then, you can use topical creams and medications followed by a moisturizer.
