Dywayne Thomas

MA, BFA, HNDip, Hon. DHL, DPA. (Born May 17, 1977) is an actor, producer and martial artist born in London, England.
He is an actor and is famous for Mia, Survey, Rise of the Foot Soldier 4, DC Pennyworth, IF, Necktie of Ribbon, Catalyst, Hello Aulivivoir and Ted Bandy Hudson. He is also the Associate Producer of the feature film “Cyberlante” from Raya Films Productions.
Thomas has a black belt in karate and has won several National, English, and British Karatedo Championships awards. From 1987 to 1992, he was a former junior individual and team Kata champion who represented the London Fivefold Karate team.

Early life

Thomas was born on May 17, 1977, in the City of London (London, England) to his parents Patricia Cindy Thomas and Winston Roy Thomas (Caribbean, South American, African ancestry).
He is the third eldest of six children of the Caribbean and African ancestry. Many of his relatives live in the Caribbean and the United States, but his close family lives in the United Kingdom.
Thomas grew up in Hackney and studied at Gayhurst Elementary School.
TV host (and a long-time friend of the family), Jasmine Harman, attended the same elementary school as Thomas.
Thomas later attended Cardinal Paul Roman Catholic School in East London. He was in the same grade as professional football player Darren Perth when he was at Cardinal Pole.

Acting career

Thomas began his acting career appearing in numerous dance & musical theatre performances at an early age. The most notable one being the 1986 production of “The Pied Piper” starring Sylvester McCoy at the Royal National Theatre, Southbank in London.

Thomas trained at the Identity School of Acting in Brixton and Gray’s Inn, London. He also did his Screen Action training at the British Action Academy in Surrey, England.

Thomas is currently preparing for his new supporting actor role of Mario Colombo in upcoming feature film ‘Mia.’

He will be featured in the upcoming SURVEILLED movie by RAYA Films and most recently he was featured as a Boxing Judge in Rise of the Footsoldier 4: Marbella, which got released towards the end of last year.

He has appeared in the following feature films: Hello Au Revoir, Catylist which is due for release next year. He also plays a part in the crime/horror project, “Ted Bundy Had a Son” and is also an Associate Producer for the docu-drama “Banned, Exploited & Blacklisted: The Underground Work of Controversial Filmmaker Shane Ryan, which includes Bai Ling, Clint Eastwood’s daughter, Kathryn Reeves Eastwood, and Jonah Hill as part of the impressive cast.

CREATIVE ARTS AND MUSIC:

With a passion for carnival arts, dance, and music, Thomas has performed as a session musician/vocalist and performer with vocal groups, bands, steel orchestras and carnival clubs including Perpetual Beauty Carnival Association, Pantonic Steel Orchestra, Mangrove Steel band, Eclipse Steel band, Parchmore Project Choir, One Voice Community Choir with The Voice UK star Bizzi Dixon and  Black Theatre Co-operative with Felix Cross MBE.

EDUCATION:

Thomas holds an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree, an Honorary Doctor of Performing Arts degree, a Master of Arts in Fine Art from the  University of Hertfordshire, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Fashion Design and Technology from the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London, formerly The London Institute.

He is an Alumnus of the Alumni of the London College of Fashion, which includes: Driss Jettou, former Prime Minister of Morocco; shoe designer, Jimmy Choo, and supermodel and designer, Alek Wek.

KARATE CAREER:

Dywayne Thomas is a British Karateka, aspiring actor and a lover of great movies. He has a black belt in Karate and is a winner of multiple National, English, and British Karate Championship awards. He is a former Junior British Individual and Team Kata Champion, who represented the Traditional Karate Association (TKA) London Goju Ryu team between 1987 and 1992.

In the early 1980s, Thomas had commenced training on a daily basis in Judo from adolescence with a very distinguished teacher only to, later on, realize that it wasn’t the right martial art for him. A few years later, in January 1985, he began learning Goju-ryu karate under the instruction of Shihan Chris Rowen, 7th dan, who was a 3rd dan Sensei at the time and also a student of Kaiso (Founder) Gogen Yamaguchi, 10th dan. Yamaguchi sadly passed away on May 20th, 1989. He is the founder of the International Karate-dō Gōjū Kai Association.

KARATE CAREER:

In 1987 Thomas was graded to Shodan (1st Dan) Junior Black belt by Shihan Chris Rowen. Shihan Rowen would occasionally invite special guest instructors over to train his students in Okinawan and Japanese Goju-Ryu Karate. Thomas would’ve also received specialist instruction from Gōjū Kai masters, Shihan Ingo de Jong of Sweden (Vice-President of the International Karate-do Goju Kai Association) and Saiko Shihan (Grand Master) Goshi Yamaguchi (8th Dan, Hanshi) of Japan, who is the current President of the International Karate-dō Gōjū Kai Association.

Thomas took a break from competing and training in 1992 to focus more on his academic studies. After a two year gap, in 1994, he returned to Karate training under the instruction of Shihan Vic Charles MBE where he was taught Wado-ryu Karate at the N-16 Fitness Centre, opened by Charles in 1992, in the heart of Stoke Newington, Hackney.

Since retiring from Karate competitions, Thomas has endured a brief stint in the British Army as a Signaller, worked in the private security industry as a Close Protection Operative and Media Security Advisor. He is currently focusing on his acting and filmmaking career.
