Another Silent Hill Movie Is Reportedly In The Works According To Director Christophe Gans

This year will feature an interesting amount of video game adaptations to the big and small screen Another Silent Hill Movie Is Reportedly in the Works According To Director Christophe Gans. Sonic the Hedgehog prepares to debut in less than two weeks in cinemas around the world and other important projects are coming for the rest of the year and beyond. To the long list of adaptations that are coming now two more were revealed to add.

Speaking with the French medium Allocine, Director Christoph Gans confirmed that he is already working on a new Silent Hill movie. Gans was responsible for directing the first film of the franchise in 2006, still considered one of the best adaptations of video games to the big screen, without too much competition. The French director will return to work with Victor Hadida, a producer who was also present in that first film. On the other hand, Gans also confirmed that he is working on the second adaptation of a horror video game with the franchise known as Fatal Frame in the United States, Project Zero in the rest of the world and simply Zero in Japan.

“I am working on the adaptation of the Project Zero videogame. The film will be located in Japan. I, especially, do not want to uproot the game from its original Japanese haunted house context. And we are also working on a new Silent Hill. The project is always going to be anchored in this atmosphere of small American people, devastated by Puritanism. I think it is time to make a new one, “confirmed the director.

The Silent Hill saga launched four major video games between 1999 and 2004 and four others that tell stories related to the people, creatures, and events of the franchise. The last one, Silent Hill: Downpour, arrived on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in March 2012. Since then, the saga stars in rumors of a possible return, but they still do not seem to be any concrete plans for a new installment.

In 2014 there were attempts by Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, to bring back Silent Hill with a new video game starring Norman Reedus. PT was released, a short first-person demo that became a sensation among fans, but due to differences between the director and the company that owned the game, Konami, the project was stranded and never saw the light. Currently, the demo cannot be obtained in official stores and it no longer works on the consoles that had it downloaded.

The film adaptation came in 2006, in one of the most popular moments of the franchise. It is based on the first videogame of the saga and was very well received by Silent Hill fans. The second part, entitled Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, premiered in 2012 but took off a lot from the first installment and the concepts of the game. Although several iconic enemies of the franchise said present, production efforts focused on special effects and the use of 3D, which still seemed an important factor at the time. It is unknown if the new film will follow the line raised by the first two, seek to adapt another video game or tell a completely new story for the franchise.

Fatal Frame is also a franchise that has several deliveries. The main saga has five video games that were released between 2001 and 2014. The last one is exclusive to the Nintendo Wii U and takes advantage of the control and its camera for new gameplay features. Two spin-offs were also launched in 2004 and 2012. The great attraction of Fatal Frame / Project Zero is that it is a survival horror where the protagonist has no weapon, but must break through haunted locations with camera photos that allow you to see spirits, capture their essence and avoid them for a while.
