Brenda Limone (left) and Terri Sullivan (right) are your hosts for AgingChoices Unfiltered. Limone and Sullivan are also the co-founders of AgingChoices.com. The company is focused on educating and helping to match people that are looking for senior living services to the right providers in their area based on their specific needs. In addition to their business experience in the senior care industry, both women have their own personal stories to share.

Get to Know Terri Sullivan

Terri’s experience with senior care began with her grandmother Betty. After dealing with a few health issues—including a hip replacement and a knee replacement—Betty determined it was time to make a move from her current living arrangements.

“I think she was feeling unsafe at home by herself and she made the decision to move into a continuing care retirement community,” recalled Sullivan. Betty moved into an assisted living community but quickly found out this was not the right fit for her.

“She was having lunch and dinner every day with residents that were highly cognitively declined so she was not having great conversations,” explained Sullivan. “She was sharp as a tack. She was very unhappy. She was miserable; it was horrible to watch.”

Sullivan and her family then transitioned Betty to an independent living community where she resided until she passed.

What Sullivan and her family didn’t know at the time of Betty’s passing was that the estate was responsible for paying more than $2,000 a month in community fees until the apartment was sold. Once the apartment was sold, the estate only received 70% of the purchase price back. “Those are all things that you don’t think about going into it,” Sullivan said.

AgingChoices Unfiltered will give you an inside look at the senior care industry and educate you so you can ask the right questions and make the best decisions for your loved ones.

Get to Know Brenda Limone

Brenda is one busy woman. When she’s not working with Terri to lead and grow AgingChoices, she’s helping to take care of her parents and she is the primary caregiver of her disabled sister who’s in her 50’s.

Five years ago, Limone’s mother, now 86-years-old and her father, now 91-years-old, moved into a senior living community on their own. “It was a great environment for them and they had a lot of friends,” Limone said.

Following major cognitive decline and memory issues, Limone’s father was transferred to a hospital. “It was just an awful, a really awful experience,” said Limone. “They didn’t know anything about him and he went one day from him going to dinner to the next they wanted to restrain him and move him to this place.”

Fortunately, Limone was able to help her mother with her father and bring some stability to the situation. But none of that would have been possible if she hadn’t become a vocal advocate for her father’s care. “We wanted to get him into memory care where he was so my mom could walk and visit with him and that took quite a bit of maneuvering,” Limone said.
