Who is a treatment designer and what does he do?
Treatment design is a huge and broad field, but when it comes to treatment design — it’s a narrow area that most designers haven’t heard of. Put it simply, treatments are directors’ treatments that are needed by advertising productions and help them to sell a director to a customer. During the tender for a promotional video, directors rarely make treatments and that is why they turn to such special people.
What is important in this profession?
Vision and the ability to make treatments quickly and efficiently play an important role. Most often, 2 days are given to the project, so clients value the ability to work efficiently and quickly most of all. Sometimes it happens that work has to be done during one night, and it is absolutely normal, there is no concept of “working day” in this field.
It is also very important for a treatment designer to know foreign languages and the more languages he/she knows, the better. In this field, you constantly have to work on treatments in Swedish, German, Spanish, and English. Customers appreciate multilingual designers as they do not have to pay extra for a translator and spend time on translating the information and texts for a treatment.
Every designer has their own cool cases that they can be proud of. In the field of treatment, designers are proud not of their works, but of the advertisements filmed on them. It is not always possible to win a tender, since success is influenced not only by the treatment itself but also by the financial component, the attitude of a client to a customer, and other factors. But when the tender is won, the designer gets a huge plus and subsequent projects with this director are guaranteed to him.
Treatments for Samsung, New Balance, Converse
Before I became advanced in this area, I have been working for 2 years and have done 200 projects. There are such large production companies as Park Production, Caviar, Spark & Riot, and Anonymous Content among my customers. All of them have huge bases of directors who constantly need help with treatments.
One of the most striking projects was the treatments for Samsung. The director and the customer had a goal to see a bright, cool treatment. Here’s what we got after two days of work.
A nice animation project we have created with a young American director for Converse. The brand launched a new footwear collection for February 14.
And one of the best works that the New Balance customer liked was done for the English market for the brand’s fall campaign.
